With up to 2 inches of rain having already fallen, a Flash Flood Warning will be in effect until 2:15 p.m. Monday, the National Weather Service said.
The warn covers Westchester, Fairfield, Rockland and Orange counties.
Just before noon, Doppler radar indicated heavy rain across those areas, with flooding having already caused numerous road closures.
Excessive runoff from heavy rainfall will cause flooding of small creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses as well as other drainage areas and low lying spots.
A Flash Flood Warning means that flooding is imminent or occurring. If you are in the warned area move to higher ground immediately.
Residents living along streams and creeks should take immediate precautions to protect life and property, the National Weather Service.
